Why this petition matters

Started by Brock Morgan

It’s no secret that the Black Lives Matter movement has turned a lot of heads and created lots of awareness as far as shining a light on the deep dark racial disparities that has plagued this country for far too long. The late, great Representative John Lewis a titan of the United States House, an ally of Martin Luther King JR and often referred to as “The Conscience of Congress” once said "Nothing can stop the power of a committed and determined people to make a difference in our society. Why? Because human beings are the most dynamic link to the divine on this planet." This is a very powerful quote that holds a heavy weight of reverence in todays day and age. Not to mention how he was always a champion of getting into “Good Trouble.” I say all of this to usher in the notion that I believe we the people of Kannapolis, North Carolina and beyond are in need of a mural much like the one seen in Charlotte across South Tryon Street between East 3rd and East 4th street. On our very own Laureate Way right outside of The Kannapolis City Hall & Kannapolis Police Headquarters. I would also be willing to speak to and work with Mayor Hinnant in addition to all 6 city council members (if given the opportunity) to ensure the occurrence of this physical representation.           Thank You
